(10 jun. 1923, Slatina-Selo, Checoslovaquia–5 nov. 1991, mar de las islas Canarias).

Editor checobritánico. De origen judío, perdió a gran parte de su familia durante el holocausto. Sin embargo, él logró trasladarse a Gran Bretaña donde se convirtió en oficial del ejército. Después de la guerra fundó Pergamon Press, que se transformó en una importante editorial de revistas de negocios y libros científicos. Durante la década de 1980 hizo renacer a British Printing Corp. y compró Mirror Group Newspapers, si bien sus prácticas financieras fueron oficialmente cuestionadas. Algunas de las adquisiciones de Maxwell Communications fueron el New York Daily News (1991) y la casa editorial Macmillan. La revelación de las prácticas financieras fraudulentas a las que había recurrido para evitar el colapso de su imperio precedió a su muerte en el Atlántico, donde se le halló ahogado cerca de su yate. Se supuso que fue un suicidio.
